COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Today, Lafayette Animal Shelter & Care Center has installed free, 24/7 microchip scanning stations at three public parking lots in Lafayette Parish to help reunite lost pets with their owners. The shelter is offering $15 microchips Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. and will hold quarterly Saturday clinics—starting with one from 2 to 4 p.m. on Sept. 6—to further support pet reunification.  The Daily Advertiser

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • The Lafayette Parish Office of Homeland Security and Emergency Preparedness has activated cooling centers at Girard Park Pavilion, Dupuis Recreation Center, Heymann Recreation Center, and public libraries to help residents combat extreme heat. Residents can use free Lafayette Transit rides to these centers until Friday—ensuring safe access to water and cooling resources.  KLFY
  • Lafayette Fire Chief Robert Benoit will retire Aug. 15 after 46 years of service and a three-decade career leading the department; he will join Acadian Ambulance as Fire Liaison Supervisor and serve on the search for his successor — continuing his commitment to public safety.  The Daily Advertiser

  • Our Lady of Lourdes Health in Lafayette unveiled a new marble statue of Our Lady gifted by the Franciscan Missionaries of Our Lady Health Board of Trustees. The statue (over 6 feet tall) stands at the hospital entrance as a symbol of faith and dedication to community care.  KLFY
