ACCIDENTS NEWS

  • A Church Point man, 38-year-old Alex Chavis, was killed in a head-on collision with a pickup truck on LA 358 near LA 357 in St. Landry Parish on August 2—he was driving a 2017 Kia Optima when it crossed the centerline—while the other driver sustained serious injuries and was taken to a local hospital.  News 15

CRIME NEWS

  • A fight at popular Lafayette business Yard Goat on Bertrand Drive on July 19 left Scotty Rideaux injured when he lost his eye and was taken to a hospital, and police arrested 26-year-old Aiden Rivette of Carencro on charges of second-degree battery and resisting an officer—he was later released on a $25,000 bond.  The Advocate

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • A settlement was reached late Friday between the unnamed plaintiff—who said state schools mishandled her Title IX case after a 2018 incident—and the University of Louisiana System, federal court filings show. The undisclosed deal stops a trial that was set to begin today in Baton Rouge and ends a long legal battle over claims that allowed the accused to transfer schools despite multiple reports.  The Advocate

  • Boxer Kenny Vice died at 64 from a brain disease linked to his 25 years in boxing, his daughter said. He was remembered as more than a champion for building a gym and helping local young fighters.  The Advocate
  • LCA senior wide receiver Brayden Allen—who committed to Tulane for next fall—said he will work extra hard as the Knights prepare for the upcoming season. He plans to use his speed on plays along with teammates such as Braylon Walker and Caiden Bellard to help the team win on Saturdays.  The Daily Advertiser
