- ➤ A Church Point man, 38-year-old Alex Chavis, was killed in a head-on collision with a pickup truck on LA 358 near LA 357 in St. Landry Parish on August 2—he was driving a 2017 Kia Optima when it crossed the centerline—while the other driver sustained serious injuries and was taken to a local hospital. - ➤ A fight at popular Lafayette business Yard Goat on Bertrand Drive on July 19 left Scotty Rideaux injured when he lost his eye and was taken to a hospital, and police arrested 26-year-old Aiden Rivette of Carencro on charges of second-degree battery and resisting an officer—he was later released on a $25,000 bond. - ➤ A settlement was reached late Friday between the unnamed plaintiff—who said state schools mishandled her Title IX case after a 2018 incident—and the University of Louisiana System, federal court filings show. The undisclosed deal stops a trial that was set to begin today in Baton Rouge and ends a long legal battle over claims that allowed the accused to transfer schools despite multiple reports.
