COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Former Youngsville Police Chief Earl Menard, who died of a heart attack earlier this week, was honored with a three-gun salute and taps at his funeral — a tribute to his long service — before he was laid to rest in St. Anne’s Cemetery on Sunday. Family and local leaders said his dedicated work and kind spirit deeply touched the community.  KATC

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Downtown Broussard's Main Street and Morgan Avenue intersection is now open as part of the city's Envision Broussard downtown redevelopment plan — work included enhanced sidewalks, drainage, and utilities. Sidewalk and infrastructure projects continue along Main Street and Morgan Avenue, and the final phase will be completed early 2026.  KATC
  • Louisiana Workforce Commission Secretary Susana Schowen, an appointee of Gov. Jeff Landry, is set to lead major changes in workforce development with the new One Door policy—designed to give residents easier access to social services and job training. The agency will be rebranded as Louisiana Works in October while management of Temporary Assistance for Needy Families funds remains with the Department of Children and Family Services until 2027.  The Advocate
