  • Hunters For The Hungry Louisiana announced that Clean Out Your Freezer Day will take place on August 24 — the event asks Louisianans to donate properly packaged frozen goods like game, fish, and other proteins.   • A local veterans group, Once Was Inc., honored Vietnam War veterans affected by Agent Orange by hosting a free meal for all service members on Monday, August 11. Executive director Racquel Edmond said the event highlighted the need to remember the sacrifices made by these veterans.  News 15

  • Lafayette police arrested 29‑year‑old Christian Simmons after a man was shot on Dewey Street Monday when he knocked on a home door—Simmons faces charges of attempted second‑degree murder and firearm possession and the victim, with non‑life‑threatening injuries, was taken to a local hospital.  News 15

  • On August 12, 2025, Tito's 'Tini Tuesday Tour ended at Tsunami — guests sipped the Fete Soleil Tini to support Healing House as the campaign finale. The event marked the last Tito's Tini Tuesday of 2025, encouraging local community support.  News 15

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Lafayette city and parish councils spent the day reviewing Mayor-President Monique Blanco Boulet's proposed $803 million budget at City Hall, with a focus on public safety and updating old infrastructure.   • Our Lady of Lourdes Women's and Children's Hospital in Lafayette is expanding its NICU with 19 new private family suites to improve care for vulnerable newborns—part of a $100 million Advancing Acadiana initiative that will serve more than 28 parishes and rural hospitals.
