COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Lafayette Consolidated Government used input from the 2024 Lafayette Music Census to launch a new music strategy that will appoint a City Music Liaison, form a Music Advisory Committee, and expand youth and audience programs—efforts that will help Lafayette join a national network of music-friendly cities. BUSINESS NEWS

  • Trader Joe's officially announced a new store in Lafayette along Camellia Boulevard + near River Ranch, expected to open in the spring. The new location will be the fifth Trader Joe's in Louisiana, joining sites in Baton Rouge, Metairie, and New Orleans.  News 15
  • Magnolia Pantry will hold its grand opening on Aug. 28 at downtown Lafayette's renovated Sans Souci building. The cafe, a winner of One Acadiana's Small Business Challenge, will serve pies and drinks during a public ribbon-cutting event (4-6 p.m.) to help revitalize the area.  The Daily Advertiser

EDUCATION NEWS

  • LPSS Superintendent Francis Touchet, Jr. invites community members to attend the 2025 State of the District Address on Thursday, September 4 from 5:15 to 7:00 p.m. at Lafayette High School & the event will feature art and music student performances, culinary treats, and a reception before the formal presentation begins at 6:00 p.m. with limited seating and required registration.  KATC
  • The Lafayette Parish School System is working to fix overcrowded school buses reported on Lafayette High and Carencro routes as the new school year begins. The transportation director said school closures, rezoning, and a shortage of bus drivers are causing the issue and will be resolved by the end of the week—ensuring safer rides for students.  News 15
  • Superintendent Francis Touchet, Jr. will invite community members to the LPSS 2025 State of the District Address on September 4 from 5:15 to 7:00 p.m. at Lafayette High School (featuring art and music student performances, culinary treats from W.D.
