COMMUNITY NEWS

  • The Junior League of Lafayette held the kickoff for its annual Tinsel & Treasures Sparkle and Shine Raffle at Lee Michaels Jewelry on August 14, selling $10 raffle tickets with chances to win either $10,000 in cash or a shopping spree ahead of the holiday market at the Cajundome Convention Center from September 25 to 27.  News 15
  • The Junior League of Lafayette began its annual Tinsel and Treasures Sparkle and Shine Raffle at Lee Michaels Jewelry on August 14 to raise funds for programs that support local women and children. Raffle tickets cost $10 and are available until the holiday market at the Cajundome from September 25 to 27, with the drawing on September 27 offering a chance to win $10,000 cash or a $10,000 shopping spree — marking a festive start to the season.  News 15

  • On August 15, 2025, Kevin Naquin of Naq's N' Duson featured the restaurant’s fried stuffed crab on the Friday Feed to showcase its signature dish to local diners.  News 15

EDUCATION NEWS

  • The Lafayette Parish School Board approved a $2,000 stipend for every school employee—teachers receive the full amount from the state while support staff get an extra $1,000 from the board, with payments set for September.  The Advocate
  • Today, Niche released its ranking of the 10 best colleges in Louisiana for 2025 with Tulane University ranked first and other schools such as Louisiana Tech, LSU, and the University of Louisiana at Lafayette also making the list. Niche used data on academics, admissions, and student reviews from the U.S. Department of Education to create the rankings.  The Daily Advertiser

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • The Louisiana Judiciary Commission recommended Judge Royale Colbert be suspended for 30 days without pay—he is also ordered to take anger management classes and pay $2,635.96 in costs for incidents in 2021 and 2023 that hurt public confidence. The Supreme Court will hold a hearing to decide on his disciplinary action.  The Advocate

SPORTS NEWS

  • Southside High School has named its new football stadium 'The Reef'—the Southside Sharks will host their first home game there on September 5 against Notre Dame. The $8.5 million stadium, which began construction in spring 2024, is ready to welcome fans.  News 15
