  • The Lafayette community honored retired Fire Chief Robert Benoit after 46 years of service during a ceremony at the Central Fire Station on Wednesday — friends, family and fellow firefighters praised his leadership and the fire safety training programs he developed.   • Two women stole over $6K in merchandise from Victoria's Secret in the Mall of Acadiana—authorities are asking the public to call Lafayette Crime Stoppers with information.  News 15

ECONOMY NEWS

  • The Acadiana Opportunity Job Fair will be held on October 22nd from 9:00 a.m. to 12 noon at Heymann Convention Center on S College Road in Lafayette—connecting employers with a diverse applicant pool including persons with disabilities, justice involved and formerly incarcerated persons, and the general public. The event will also include two benefits planning sessions for persons with disabilities at 9:30 a.m. and 10:30 a.m.  KATC

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Former St. Martin Parish President Chester Cedars urged prosecutors to review a Louisiana Legislative Auditor report that found Lafayette officials may have broken laws when they removed a spoil bank from the Vermilion River near Oakbourne Country Club in 2022. Cedars said the report—spotlighting a jump from a $390,000 bid to a $3.6 million amendment—shows the project should be thoroughly investigated.  The Advocate
  • Louisiana voters will soon use new absentee voting envelopes with larger print and easier-to-read instructions for the October 11 elections, according to Secretary of State Nancy Landry. HEALTH NEWS

  • The FDA is recalling frozen shrimp sold at Walmart in Louisiana—these products may have been contaminated with radioactive Cs-137 during processing as the agency continues its investigation. Local consumers are advised to throw away any Great Value raw shrimp from the affected lots.  The Daily Advertiser
  • Walmart has recalled frozen, raw shrimp from stores in Louisiana and 12 other states after federal health officials detected potential radioactive contamination with Cesium-137. The recall affects selected lots of Great Value brand shrimp processed by BMS Foods of Indonesia + the product may pose a health risk with prolonged exposure.  News 15

  • UL athletic director Bryan Maggard welcomed reporters into the newly renovated Our Lady of Lourdes Stadium ahead of football season—he said the $65 million upgrade has prepared the facility for the Cajuns' upcoming home games.  The Daily Advertiser
