COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Families in Lafayette will honor babies lost too soon during the 16th annual Maddie's Footprints Forever Walk on Oct. 4th at River Ranch—organizers plan to raise funds and provide grief support for parents after infant loss. Participants will register at 6:45 a.m. before starting a one-mile walk at 8:00 a.m. that is followed by a 5K and family celebrations.  KATC

ACCIDENTS NEWS

  • The Coast Guard and United Cajun Navy will resume the search for missing fisherman Jimmy Jett—a father of five who fell overboard from a boat off Marsh Island in Iberia Parish—this morning using planes and helicopters to scan about 12 miles south of the island.  News 15

CRIME NEWS

  • A teen is hospitalized in critical condition after being shot on Sunday, August 24th—a little before 7:30 p.m.—at Debaillon Park on Saucier Parkway as police investigate the incident.  News 15
  • A former Lafayette police officer — Kyle Jagneaux — has been charged with manslaughter after he fatally shot Phillip Francis Jr. during a gun altercation at WoodSpring Suites on Hugh Wallis Road on August 22.  News 15

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Students at Green T. Lindon Elementary were dismissed early on Monday when the air conditioning went out. The system has now been fixed and classes will resume as normal Tuesday as confirmed by a Lafayette Parish School System spokesperson.  The Advocate

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Lafayette Consolidated Government finished repairs on the E. Verot School Road Bridge east of W. Pinhook Road over Coulee des Poches. The $1.3 million project began in March and used a new Soil Nail Wall method—stabilizing erosion and repairing the bridge with funds from the City of Lafayette Sales Tax Fund.  KATC
