  • Longtime Lafayette ADA Gary Haynes, accused of bribery in the 15th Judicial District’s pretrial diversion program, went on trial in federal court Monday and faces up to 60 years in prison if convicted—alleged co-conspirators who pleaded guilty are set to testify against him.  The Current

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • The pond at Girard Park is covered in duckweed that blocks sunlight and may lower oxygen for fish. Retired biologist Ron Boustany said treatment with herbicides may cost the city between $1,000—$1,500 to restore the pond's health.  KATC

SPORTS NEWS

  • Last week, five new high school football coaches in the 337 area recorded their first wins of the 2025 season. Michael Courville, Stephen Hearen, Garrett Kreamer, Cory Brodie and Jay Domengeaux led teams to victories with scores like 48—12, 52—8, 34—29, 51 points and 41—7 as they began the season.  The Daily Advertiser

  • Louisiana’s Ragin’ Cajuns beat McNeese 34 to 10 on Saturday night as Bill Davis ran for two touchdowns and rushed for 132 yards out of the team’s 315 total rushing yards—Zylan Perry and Steven Blanco also made key contributions.
