- ➤ Historian Floyd Knott, 91, will release his third book today at Bayou Teche Brewing in Arnaudville — the work collects his Le Vieux Temps columns and looks back at Acadiana history while offering signed copies for purchase. The Daily Advertiser

- ➤ One Acadiana will host its annual Louisiana Economic Forecast on October 2 at La Pavillon in Lafayette with renowned economist Dr. Loren Scott addressing economic topics including energy and agriculture. Doors will open at 7 a.m. and the program will begin at 7:30 a.m.—tickets cost $50 per person. KATC
- ➤ Sugarcane farmers across Acadiana are celebrating a bountiful harvest thanks to plentiful summer rain—helping the crop grow tall and straight. Farmers like Ricky Gonsoulin of Gonsoulin Farms are working from dawn to dusk hauling thousands of pounds of cane to the mills as the Sugar Cane Festival runs through Sunday. News 15

- ➤ Two people who bought tickets for the Love Our Schools Giveaway won Nissan vehicles as Brandy Montreau of Youngsville won a 2025 Nissan Rogue plus Jeff Trosclair of Lafayette won a 2025 Nissan Pathfinder. Every fifty dollar ticket contributed funds that support school programs for students and teachers. KATC
- ➤ High school students in Acadiana learned about different horse industry careers at JAG Equine Day held at the Louisiana Equine Sales and Event Center in Opelousas—organizers said the event aimed to show that the industry offers more than just horse racing. News 15
- ➤ At M.D. Mary Baker Smith Career Center, a surprise ceremony on Friday morning honored husband and wife Randy and Karen Demette as Teacher of the Year and Support Staff of the Year—selected by their peers. The awards recognized the couple’s 30-year marriage and commitment to the school. KATC

- ➤ Lafayette will host Household Hazardous Waste Day on November 22 at Cajun Field from 8 a.m. to 12 p.m., where residents may drop off chemicals, electronics, and glass for safe disposal (entry is from West Congress Street). The Daily Advertiser

- ➤ Lafayette Consolidated Government and Keep Lafayette Beautiful will host a free Paper Shredding Day on November 15 from 9:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. at the Robicheaux Recreation Center—residents can safely dispose of sensitive documents to prevent identity theft and support recycling efforts as part of America Recycles Day. - ➤ J. Benjamin Aguiñaga, Louisiana’s solicitor general and former clerk for Justice Samuel Alito, was named by Attorney General Liz Murrill in January 2024 and will argue the state’s Voting Rights Act case before the U.S. Supreme Court on October 15th. He handles federal cases on redistricting and school Ten Commandments issues that could have nationwide implications for voting rights. The Advocate
- ➤ Voting machines in Lafayette were sealed by election officials at the Registrar of Voters office in preparation for early voting starting today—three sites will be available for the special election on October 11, which will address millage renewals for the school board and Bayou Vermilion District. - ➤ Lafayette leaders and community stakeholders have begun a formal assessment to expand mental healthcare access at the Acadiana Crisis Recovery Center—an effort to connect residents with behavioral health and substance abuse services. - ➤ Local property taxes for Lafayette Parish schools and the Bayou Vermilion District will be on the Oct. 11 ballot; early voting runs from Sept 27 through Oct 4, excluding Sundays. - ➤ Our Lady of Lourdes Heart Hospital eliminated emergency services as of Friday night when the ER team moved to a new 11-bed expansion at Regional Medical Center on Ambassador Caffery Parkway — the change is part of a $25 million investment to improve cardiovascular services.
