- ➤ On Monday, October 6, Moncus Park broke ground on the Kergan Meditation Garden, a new ornamental space for reflection and healing at the park’s 100 acres — funded by Ted, Ann, and Luc Kergan. Construction is underway and the garden will be completed by spring 2026. KATC
BUSINESS NEWS
- ➤ MMR Group announced plans to invest $55.2 million in a new assembly facility in Lafayette that will boost electrical component production for data centers and semiconductors—renovations on the facility will begin immediately with completion expected by year-end, creating 196 direct jobs and 335 indirect roles. CULTURE NEWS
- ➤ Festivals Acadiens et Créoles returns to Girard Park from October 10 to 12, offering free family-friendly celebrations with Cajun and Creole music, food, art and craft fairs — the 51st annual event also features new activities like the Tour de Attakapas, an annual symposium and local sports games. Organizers say the festival brings Acadiana’s traditions to life for both locals and visitors. KATC
- ➤ Lafayette mother Jessica Dugar is making a documentary called Unforgotten to honor gun violence victims—she lost her son Nicholas and nearly 40 families have shared their memories in the project. The film will serve as a tribute and help teach local children while Dugar seeks sponsors for a free screening by the end of the year. KATC
ECONOMY NEWS
- ➤ A $55.2 million manufacturing investment is coming to Lafayette to build a new facility on Pont des Mouton Road — where DMR Technologies will make unmanned aerial systems and add over 200 direct jobs. The project will bring 521 direct new jobs and more indirect roles as it prepares to open by 2026. KATC
EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ Love Our Schools in partnership with LPSS launched Education All-Stars— a new program honoring outstanding Lafayette Parish teachers and support staff with nominations open from October 6 until October 31. Finalists will be announced in January and winners will be celebrated on February 7 at the University of Louisiana at Lafayette Men’s Basketball Game— community members are invited to support the event. GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ City and Parish Councils are set to reassign polling places for precincts 38, 41 and 42 from the closed SJ Montgomery Elementary School to Lafayette High School and to vote on new roundabout projects along Ridge Road—plans intended to ease growing commuter traffic. They will also appoint former UL President Dr. Joseph Savoie to the Cajundome Commission as part of a broader effort to address community infrastructure needs. The Current

- ➤ LSU football coach Brian Kelly said the team may adjust its offensive line for the Saturday SEC game against South Carolina if left guard Paul Mubenga cannot play—freshman Carius Curne is expected to fill the gap as Weston Davis returns healthy.
