- ➤ Habitat for Humanity is hosting Courageous Community Conversations at the Rosa Parks Transportation Center—doors open at 5:15 p.m. and discussions begin at 5:30 p.m. on October 13 for residents from Oasis, Quiet Town, and Resilience Rise and on October 14 for McComb‑Veazey, LaPlace, and Freetown to set priorities for 2026 and beyond. - ➤ Building permits for Oct 1-7 showed that Chart Construction secured permission to cosmetically remodel the dining room of the new Off The Hook seafood restaurant at 101 Liberty Ave while approvals were issued for retail, residential and aviation projects across Lafayette, Broussard and Youngsville — permits ranged from $55,000 for minor renovations to $6.5 million for a Trader Joe’s expansion. - ➤ Gene Todaro, founder of Marcello's, will open his new Italian eatery, Cugino's, in mid-October at the former Mid-City Barbecue site on South College Road where guests will soon enjoy authentic Italian cuisine.
