  • Broussard hosted its inaugural Monsters on Main Halloween event that drew thousands of families—featuring a parade along Main Street and children's activities at City Hall such as a costume contest and candy giveaways.  News 15

BUSINESS NEWS

  • South Louisiana businesses announced leadership changes this week—Patrick Kerr of Baton Rouge Water was named board chair of the National Association of Water Cos while Lafayette’s Christopher McFarlain became a partner at EisnerAmper and New Orleans’ Mitchell Ervin joined the Greater New Orleans Sports Foundation board. Jeffrey Thibodeaux was promoted at Zea Rotisserie & Bar and Jones Walker added new partners, marking a busy week for local business moves.  The Advocate

CULTURE NEWS

  • The 51st Festival Acadiens took place on October 10 at Girard Park as locals enjoyed the traditional boudin cutting, live performances by Zachary Richard and Eric Adcock, and speeches by Lafayette Mayor-President Monique Blanco Boulet and Ambassador Laurent Bili — celebrating local culture.  The Daily Advertiser
  • The 30th Annual Women of Excellence Awards Luncheon honored local women in business, health, education, law and non-profit work at the Petroleum Club in Lafayette. Lisa Lazard from the Lafayette Commission on the Needs of Women said the awards recognize strong community service and leadership in Acadiana.  News 15

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Lafayette Parish voters renewed a 7.79 mill property tax on Saturday to provide about $20 million for school operations—covering teacher salaries, transportation, and utilities for 46 campuses. Voter turnout was low at 7.7% and voters will return in November to decide on two local renewals for services like road and bridge maintenance.  The Advocate

SPORTS NEWS

  • LSU football junior wide receiver Aaron Anderson—battling toe, knee, and hip injuries—will not play Saturday night against South Carolina at Tiger Stadium.  The Daily Advertiser
  • LSU football recovered a fumble early against South Carolina on Saturday but lost a crucial scoring chance when a 2nd-and-goal play at the LSU 1 ended in a touchback (dashing a possible two-score lead) and the Gamecocks scored on an 80-yard drive (raising the score to 7-3 by early second quarter).  The Daily Advertiser
  • LSU football improved its run game against South Carolina on Saturday night after the team switched its mindset—tight end Trey'Dez Green and running back Ju'Juan Johnson made key plays that opened running lanes. Coach Brian Kelly said the team showed better preparation and discipline during the game.  The Daily Advertiser
