- ➤ Habitat for Humanity hosted the first night of its 'Courageous Community Conversations' series Monday evening to gather feedback from residents (Oasis, Quiet Town, and Resilience Rise) on strengthening northside neighborhoods. The nonprofit will hold a second session Tuesday evening for residents from McComb-Veazey, LaPlace, and Freetown to guide future housing and supportive service plans. KATC
- ➤ Rotary Point along the Vermilion River was created in the mid-1980s during an oil bust to bring optimism to Lafayette, and local architect Fabian Patin with Bob Cole secured Rotary Club funds to improve the site. The area now features benches—picnic tables, flowering azaleas and live oaks planted to honor international Rotary presidents—and remains a vibrant community space. The Advocate

- ➤ Work on the Buc-ee's travel center in Lafayette has started at the northeast corner of Interstate 10 — Louisiana Avenue, but delays push its opening to 2028 while another site in Ruston is set for 2026. The Advocate

- ➤ French Ambassador Laurent Bili visited Acadiana from Oct. 10 to 12 to celebrate Cajun and Creole culture at the Festivals Acadiens et Créoles — he joined local traditions like the ceremonial boudin cutting and stressed that French immersion programs are vital to preserve local Francophone roots. - ➤ Baranco Elementary hosted the award-winning Prime Time Reading Program that engages students and families in reading— the program earned the 2025 American Prize from the Library of Congress. The six-week program first attracted over 40 families and will soon expand to Head Start centers in Lafayette and Iberia parishes, providing community resources and free books. The Advocate

- ➤ Louisiana law requires minors to be at least 14 to work and limits 14- and 15-year-olds to 3 hours on school days and 8 hours on non-school days with summer hours extended until 9 p.m.—rules set by FLSA and Title 23.
