- ➤ Dave Williams from SeaD Consulting (which uses a special RightTest) tested shrimp at over 200 Louisiana spots to show that many restaurants falsely label imported shrimp as local, hurting local shrimpers. His test, which tells apart Gulf shrimp from vannamei, was shown on (Oct. 18) and supports new rules that require restaurants to list shrimp origin even though inspections remain weak. The Advocate

- ➤ Ascension Episcopal School dedicated its football field as the Michael P. Maraist Memorial Field in a ceremony held before the Blue Gators varsity game. - ➤ The University of Louisiana at Lafayette faces a severe financial shortfall after adding 467 new jobs while undergraduate enrollment dropped by 1,700 since 2015, which led to a $20M revenue loss. The UL System Board met on October 23 and adopted new safeguards for a $25M deficit, and officials say UL will cut spending by at least 10% and plan further layoffs — steps to address rising fiscal challenges.
