COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Lafayette resident Andrew Mullins and his partner Lauren Elizabeth launched the Space Cat Community Fridge at 213 Mudd Ave to help neighbors facing food uncertainty amid potential SNAP pauses—donations of ready-to-eat meals, produce, and essentials are being collected—and the fridge will open Monday with 24-hour access for community use.  The Advocate
  • Acadiana holiday events offer free family celebrations this season—Youngsville will host Christmas Under the Stars with The Living Bethlehem on December 13 from 4pm–9pm at the Amphitheater, St. Landry Parish will kick off Christmas at the Courthouse on November 29, and Eunice will present Candlelight Christmas on December 4 and 5 at First Baptist Church. These events bring live music, festive activities, and community gatherings to the region.  KATC
  • Businessman Bob Giles built his success in car dealerships and community giving when he moved to Lafayette at age 28, and he became the 2025 Civic Cup winner for his decades of support. He will be honored Tuesday at City Club in River Ranch — a tribute to his ongoing commitment to the community.  The Advocate

BUSINESS NEWS

  • Bourque’s Specialties will close its mid-town location at 3211 Johnston St. on Sunday+ it will move to a larger 2,600-square-foot space to offer more specialty grocery items. The shop, known for its jalapeno sausage cheese bread, has served customers since 2019.  The Advocate

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Lafayette will hold a ceremony at 11 a.m. on November 10 to honor U.S. service members and veterans at the Visitors Center where the historic Blue Star Memorial Marker stands. Hosted by the Lafayette Garden Club, the event will feature patriotic music and dignitary remarks—while the marker’s landscape has been refreshed with red, white, and blue blooms.  The Daily Advertiser
  • Lafayette Consolidated Government's Parks, Arts, Recreation and Culture department will host its first-ever Thanksgiving dinner food drive called PARCsGiving—asking residents to drop off Thanksgiving-themed food items at City Hall or any parish recreation center until Nov.20. Meal kits will be assembled and distributed on Nov.22 at Girard Park Recreation Center from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m.—volunteers may sign up by calling 337 291 8364.  The Advocate
  • Travelers at Lafayette Regional Airport experienced delays Thursday as the government shutdown caused staff shortages and a 10% air traffic cut—Delta canceled a flight to Atlanta and travel experts advised checking flights 24 hours in advance.  The Advocate
  • LUS issued a Boil Water Advisory for 4,600 customers in areas north of E. Willow Street, south of Gloria Switch Road, west of Saw Mill Road, and east of NE Evangeline Thruway after a water line was severed at a Buc-ee's construction site on Louisiana Avenue on November 7. Residents must boil water for at least one full minute (after reaching a rolling boil) before using it for drinking, food prep, or brushing teeth.  News 15

  • Crawfish season in Louisiana lasts from late November to early July—peak quality comes from March to May when the crustaceans are larger, more tender, and easier to peel. Eating them in season is more economical and enjoyable than during off-peak times.  The Daily Advertiser
