COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Volunteers from Parish Proud—Downtown Lafayette and Scapes, Inc. worked to beautify downtown on Saturday morning by planting native Louisiana plants such as shield ferns, Louisiana irises, coreopsis and Indian blanket and by cleaning up flowerbeds from Johnston Street to West Main Street. The project, which cost $250,000, is part of ongoing efforts to keep downtown vibrant.  KATC

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Creswell Middle School celebrated over two dozen students for perfect attendance this school year—St. Landry Parish Education Association awarded them with gift certificates and free pizza. Student Kyoan Guillory said that attending school regularly is important.  News 15

SPORTS NEWS

  • Erath beat Abbeville 40-12 at Wildcat Stadium on Friday to complete its first ever 10-0 regular season and win the district title (Aiden Bourque ran for 130 yards and two touchdowns). Coach Eric LeBlanc said the team locked in with strong offensive line play and trick plays, and the Bobcats now look forward to five more weeks of football.  The Advocate
  • LSU quarterback Garrett Nussmeier struggled against Alabama on Saturday night and was replaced by sophomore Michael Van Buren — he completed 18 of 21 passes for 121 yards with no touchdowns, breaking his record of games with at least one touchdown. It remains unclear if Nussmeier or Van Buren will start next week against Arkansas.  The Daily Advertiser
  • UL beat Southeastern Louisiana 58-52 on Friday at the Cajundome before 3,304 fans, starting with an 11-0 run+the team held its lead despite a late rally by the Lions. First-year coach Quannas White praised his players for their disciplined offense and strong defense+emphasizing that the win reflected their hard work and teamwork.  The Advocate
  • After UL beat Texas State 42-39 on Saturday, skirmishes broke out on the field and in the tunnel—coach Michael Desormeaux called the actions inexcusable and said video review will follow to determine who started them. The Cajuns secured a 13th straight win despite the tension that marred the game's conclusion.  The Advocate
