COMMUNITY NEWS

  • The Lafayette Consolidated Government’s Parks, Arts, Recreation and Culture Department has launched its first PARCsGiving event to collect non-perishable donations for Thanksgiving meal baskets for local families in need. Donations will be accepted until November 20 and meal kits will be assembled at Girard Park Recreation Center on November 22 from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m.—volunteers may sign up to help package boxes from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m.  News 15
  • On Monday, the Lafayette Garden Club hosted a Veterans Day ceremony at the Blue Star Marker on Evangeline Thruway at the Lafayette Visitor Center to honor U.S. Armed Forces veterans—patriotic music and expressions of gratitude from local dignitaries marked the event.  News 15
  • On Saturday night at the Acadiana Center for the Arts, five Lafayette teams won between $3,000 and $3,700 for civic projects—such as a food festival, job training for teens, community chess tables, a solar-powered food fridge, and a newspaper for kids—during the 24-Hour Citizen Project.  The Advocate

ECONOMY NEWS

  • The federal government has opened bidding on about 80 million acres in the Gulf for oil and gas exploration under the One Big Beautiful Bill Act. Energy companies must submit bids by December 10 so that future offshore rigs can produce fossil fuels and bring higher royalties to Louisiana and other coastal states.  The Advocate

EDUCATION NEWS

  • South Louisiana Community College was named among the top 200 U.S. community colleges eligible for a $1 million Aspen Prize for Community College Excellence, marking its fifth consecutive Aspen honor. The recognition shows that Louisiana is investing in education to grow the workforce in sectors such as healthcare and energy — a boost to Acadiana’s future.  The Daily Advertiser

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Drivers in Lafayette face disruption as the new sewer lift station project blocked access to Girard Park from South College Road and closed Girard Park Drive to Taft Street on the University campus as of November 10. The Lafayette Consolidated Government said the piping installation and pipe storage in the park will be completed by December.  News 15
  • Officials announced that the southwest bound exterior lane on W. Congress Street near Lafayette High School will close from November 17th through November 24th for utility and drainage work needed for a new right-turn deceleration lane+ exit driveway. Motorists are urged to drive carefully in the work zone as Lemoine Company carries out the improvements.  City of Lafayette

  • Two new indoor play centers are coming to Lafayette to offer families a fun place to play as cooler weather sets in. Playtopia at 1515 Ambassador Caffery is expected to open in early December & Urban Air Adventure Park at 3617-A Ambassador Caffery will open soon with attractions like climbing walls, laser tag, and go-karts.  The Advocate

SPORTS NEWS

  • Twenty-six Lafayette-area volleyball teams joined the LHSAA playoffs and nine remain as they travel to the Cajundome for quarterfinals on Nov. 13—St. Thomas More aims for its fifth title while other teams hope to bring a state championship back home.  The Daily Advertiser
  • Chanda Rubin began playing tennis by hitting balls against a chain link fence at her family's Carencro home nearly 30 years ago — winning youth titles before turning pro at 15 — and eventually reached a top ranking of sixth in the world. She played at major tournaments like Wimbledon and the U.S. Open and is honored in the Louisiana Tennis Hall of Fame as a respected sports figure.  The Advocate
  • After a postgame brawl following the Ragin’ Cajuns' 42 to 39 win over Texas State, the Sun Belt Conference suspended 13 players — including Tymere Jackson for two games and Tyree Skipper for the rest of the season. Coach Michael Desormeaux said the fight worsened his team's defensive struggles.  News 15
