  • Bob Giles, a Lafayette auto dealer, was awarded the Lafayette Civic Cup Award for raising millions for local nonprofits—he donated bulletproof vests to law enforcement and supported military families in Acadiana.  News 15

CULTURE NEWS

  • Lafayette will host a weekend of family-friendly events — including the Port Barre Cracklin Festival on Friday with carnival rides and live music, the Southern Screen Festival with film screenings and writers panels, and the free Stop, Shop and Stroll art event. Bayou Teche Brewing will hold a Naughty or Nice Christmas pop-up on Saturday at noon — while Sunday will feature creative workshops like a community writing project and a storytime with local author Connie Collins Morgan.  The Daily Advertiser

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Lafayette Public Library has launched wireless printing at its six branches using the SmartALEC service, which lets patrons print from phones, tablets and computers by logging in with a library card or guest account. Users pay 10¢ per black-and-white page after five free pages and 25¢ per color page—providing a fast, contactless option for printing school, work or personal documents.  The Daily Advertiser
  • The UL System Board of Supervisors is meeting today to discuss choosing a new UL president, but its bylaws require forming a search committee first—leaving many faculty and officials worried about a rushed decision. Ramesh Kolluru, the vice president for research, is reported as the top candidate, though no clear timeline or process has been shared.  The Advocate

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • Lafayette Consolidated Government’s Environmental Quality Division is hosting Household Hazardous Waste Day at Cajun Field on November 22 from 8 a.m. to noon so residents can safely drop off paints, batteries and household chemicals to keep them out of landfills + protect local waterways.  KATC
  • A rare pink dolphin called Pinky has been seen in brackish Gulf Coast waters since 2007 and has produced two gray calves. Wildlife officials advise observers to admire her from a safe distance — protecting her and her delicate habitat.  The Daily Advertiser

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Voters in Lafayette will decide on renewing a millage on November 15 that funds the no-kill animal shelter and supports rural fire and road projects. Shelter director Shelley Delahoussaye said the shelter increased its animal survival rate from 40% to over 90%—warning that key public services may face cuts if the millage fails.  The Current
  • Louisiana Agriculture Commissioner Mike Strain said the shrimp industry is in crisis because cheap imported shrimp and rising costs hurt local shrimpers — new state laws now require restaurants to clearly label shrimp and empower the department to test for antibiotics. He said he will ask lawmakers in the 2026 session for more enforcement power and funds to help both shrimpers and farmers struggling with low prices and high expenses.  The Advocate

HEALTH NEWS

  • Ochsner Lafayette General opened the new Andrews Institute—an expansion of its orthopedic facilities—in Lafayette on November 11. The 17,200-square-foot expansion—costing $19 million—adds a 14,000-square-foot physical therapy area and includes 18 exam rooms with 11 board-certified orthopedic surgeons and 69 therapy clinicians serving more than 8,000 student athletes.  News 15
  • Louisiana confirmed its third measles case in 2025 when an adult from Region 9 was exposed during international travel and at New Orleans airport on November 9 — the patient will remain in isolation until no longer infectious. Health officials stress that the measles vaccine is the best protection since about 90% of unvaccinated people who are exposed to the virus will become infected.  The Daily Advertiser

  • The Tulane Green Wave beat the Louisiana Ragin’ Cajuns 66—62 at the Cajundome Tuesday night after a 12—0 second-half run. Rowan Brumbaugh scored 19 points for Tulane while Jaxon Olvera led Louisiana with 19, and the Cajuns played without their top scorer Jamryon Keller.  News 15
