  • Al Hebert visited UL’s Campus Cupboard on Nov 18 to check the food available for students in need and explain how locals can help keep the shelves stocked—community donations are encouraged for future support.  News 15

BUSINESS NEWS

  • Zeus Mediterranean Kitchen will close its longtime Pinhook Road location at 1103 W. Pinhook Road later this month—after 25 years of serving local customers—and owner Yaser Balbeisi said the final day is Nov. 27, with hopes to revive a dine-in experience and Arabian entertainment in the future.  The Advocate

ECONOMY NEWS

  • Travel demand for Thanksgiving is set to be higher than in previous years, with road and air travel expected to face more congestion. Lafayette residents should plan for heavy traffic on November 26—when many leave for the holiday—and crowded return routes and flights on November 30.  The Daily Advertiser

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Students from the University of Louisiana at Lafayette will run Hodge Podge 3—a free concert featuring local acts Pilot Vice, Michael Scott Boudreaux and Magic Crawfish—at Blue Moon Saloon on Nov. 20 at 7:30 p.m. A pre-party will begin at 7 p.m. and the concert will be broadcast live on Kampus FM for the campus and Lafayette community.  The Daily Advertiser

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Deputy Kiley Krull from North Central High School became the first woman in the St. Landry Parish Sheriff’s Office to earn the expert marksmanship badge after she completed a rigorous firearms course designed by Capt. Neil Whatley — she passed on her third try. A single mother of two, she said the achievement will help her better protect students and hopes it inspires other officers to seek advanced training — which is key in schools today.  The Advocate
  • Louisiana Gov. Jeff Landry placed a full-page ad in the Wall Street Journal to urge New York City businesses to move here after mayor Zohran Mamdani was elected with a socialist platform. The ad promoted lower taxes and a business-friendly environment—paid for by Louisiana Economic Development—to help boost job growth.  The Daily Advertiser
  • The federal government approved Louisiana’s $1.355 billion plan for faster internet Tuesday — a move that will help bring better service to rural areas. Gov. Jeff Landry said the grant is a big investment to boost economic chances and update digital access across the state.  The Advocate
