COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Catholic Charities of Acadiana received a shipment of mattresses from Home Furniture delivered at the FoodNet Food Bank warehouse in Lafayette on Wednesday. The mattresses will be used in a rehousing program to help families move from shelters into permanent homes across Acadiana — a key step toward stability.  KATC
  • This weekend, Lafayette hosts a range of events for families and local culture lovers—on Friday, writers gather at the Center for Louisiana Studies while the Acadiana Center for the Arts and Heymann Center offer a family vault event and a musical performance at 7 p.m.; on Saturday and Sunday, residents can visit Native American Culture Day at Vermilionville, check out a Gun & Knife Show, listen to live music, play family bingo, and join a community writing project at Basin Arts.  The Daily Advertiser

  • A group of tattoo artists who quit Be True and Instant Classic after scandal are coming together under the new name No Masters at the Johnston Street location—led by former manager Cypress Dickerson. The team will open the shop by the end of the month and plans to work with Hearts of Hope to support survivors.  The Current
  • The Zeus restaurant at Pinhook will close by Thanksgiving—after 25 years of serving middle eastern food, the owners urge locals to visit for a final meal as the space is set for a new chapter.  KATC

EDUCATION NEWS

  • South Louisiana Community College was awarded a five-year $2.3 million federal grant to expand educational opportunities and student support in rural Acadiana. The SOARR project will boost key programs at campuses in New Iberia, Crowley, Opelousas, Franklin and launch a new Construction Management program in St. Martinville.  KATC

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Lafayette Consolidated Government announced schedule changes for Thanksgiving and Acadian Day—transit will not operate on Thanksgiving while garbage, recycling, and compost services are rescheduled and city-parish buildings will be closed. Residents should schedule paratransit rides early and plan ahead for these service adjustments.  City of Lafayette

LIFESTYLE NEWS

  • Several Lafayette restaurants will offer to-go Thanksgiving meals with options including smoked turkeys, Cajun specialties, and holiday desserts. Many venues require pre-orders by mid-November—pickup is scheduled for Thanksgiving Week and Thanksgiving Eve.  The Daily Advertiser
