- ➤ A beloved holiday tradition took place at El Sido's Zydeco Club on November 19 — honoring late Big Sid Williams who died after battling cancer in February — as local residents donated non-perishable food and enjoyed live Zydeco music to support those in need. News 15

- ➤ The Drone Institute announced a $340,000 expansion of its Lafayette headquarters on Dorest Avenue that will consolidate drone operations and pilot training. The expansion will create 610 direct new jobs with potential to develop up to 1,300 jobs in the future. News 15

- ➤ The Festival of Lights returns to Lafayette’s Oil Center on Dec. 5, offering a free family fun zone on the 5th floor and a ticketed 21+ rooftop party with live music, food and drinks on the 6th floor of Ochsner’s parking garage. The event starts at 5:30 p.m. and features the Lighting of Santa—an illuminated display with over 250 new Christmas lights—kicking off the holiday season. KATC
EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ The Lafayette Parish School System earned a B grade from the state education department's latest scores and had the top rating among districts with at least 29,000 students. Raphael A. Baranco Elementary and J.W. Faulk Elementary each improved a full letter grade to a C under the ACE pilot program while Paul Breaux Middle School dropped a letter grade after losing the LPSS gifted program. The Current
GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ On Jan. 12, 2026, the U.S. Supreme Court will hear oral arguments in the Chevron U.S.A. Inc. v. Plaquemines Parish case, a coastal dispute that began with a $745M verdict against oil companies and Louisiana parishes. The ruling will decide if state court cases should move to federal court — a decision that could affect billions in future damages. The Advocate
- ➤ Louisiana secured federal approval for its BEAD proposal, which allocates $1.355 billion to the GUMBO 2.0 program to bring high-speed internet to every parish. Gov.
