COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Local tech companies including LFT Fiber + CGI + Techneaux + Rader Solutions donated 100 frozen turkeys at the Christian Life Center to support local nonprofits, with St. Barnabas Church, Pontiac Point, and the Brandon Mason Foundation among the recipients.  News 15
  • On Saturday, neighbors gathered at Blackham Coliseum to support The RescYOU Group, which helps families grieving a child loss. The event raised funds for funeral and medical costs + featured family-friendly booths where parents shared their memories.  KATC
  • The Chitimacha Tribe opened Raintree Market at 1001 E. Main St. on November 19th, replacing Mac's Sugar City Market that burned in 2022 and ending a three-year food desert in Jeanerette—this new store lets residents shop for fresh groceries just in time for the holidays.  The Advocate
  • Volunteers with Love Acadiana packed 700 Thanksgiving meal boxes at their Broussard headquarters—using donations from local companies to help neighbors enjoy a hearty Thanksgiving.  News 15

  • A beloved live music venue, Artmosphere reopened on Johnston Street with a buffet featuring new food menu items — the reopening also showcased live singer-songwriter performances as new owner Justin Bennett from New York has worked to revitalize the space since his February purchase.  News 15

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Lafayette Parish School System closed nearly $50 million bond sale in New Orleans to fund a new K-8 school at the J.W. Faulk Elementary property on Lafayette’s north side—Barras Architects and RHH Architects will jointly design the facility and a Construction Manager will be chosen on December 11 with the school expected to open in early 2028.  News 15

SPORTS NEWS

  • LHSAA high school football playoff scores from November 21 show teams advancing in the second round across several divisions as schools competed in both Non-Select and Select matchups (including Oak Grove’s 42-0 win over Richwood in Division III Non-Select).  The Daily Advertiser
  • Area high school players shone in regional playoffs as teams including Rebels, Knights, Bulldogs, Tigers and Blue Jays posted big scores and key plays. Rebels' senior threw for 320 yards and 2 touchdowns while rushing for 157 yards and 3 scores—other players delivered strong numbers—helping their schools secure wins.  The Advocate
  • UL quarterback Lunch Winfield ran for a 4-yard touchdown in the Cajuns’ 34—30 win over Arkansas State and then shook a police officer’s hand near the stadium wall. The moment captured on film shows his engaging personality — the team will face UL Monroe next Saturday to earn bowl eligibility.  The Advocate
  • LSU football's offense struggled in its win over Western Kentucky because injuries and a lack of backups held the team back, with quarterback Michael Van Buren throwing 202 yards and one interception. The Tigers outgained WKU with 328 total yards but scored only 13 points on three trips inside the red zone—so they will work to fix short field and scoring play.  The Daily Advertiser
  • Following last Friday's opening round of the LHSAA playoffs, 23 Lafayette Parish high school teams still aim for a state championship as the regional round approaches+Church Point is traveling to Loreauville for a No.7 vs No.10 game in Division III while Westminster Christian Academy-Opelousas rematches Opelousas Catholic in Division IV.  The Daily Advertiser
