COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Lafayette City Marshal Reggie Thomas will host a free drive-thru jambalaya lunch for seniors Friday at 11 a.m. at the Martin Luther King Recreation Center on Cora Street, where older residents can pick up a meal and meet deputies (celebrating local seniors before the holidays).  KATC
  • WISE Foundation hosted its 3rd annual Believe in the Magic of the Season event at Brown Park Recreation Center to bring holiday cheer to children facing trauma, homelessness, or foster care. Community members enjoyed Christmas gifts, photos with Santa, tree decorating, good food, and free health screenings.  News 15
  • A 15-year-old local teen hosts his final Emile’s Holiday Hot Cocoa Fundraiser on Friday from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. at 513 Beverly Drive to raise money and collect food donations for Second Harvest Food Bank to help families facing hunger.  The Advocate
  • Funeral services are set for Tanasha T. Faulk, daughter of local football star Kevin Faulk, on Saturday, Dec. 13 at 11:00 a.m. at Our Lady of Assumption Catholic Church in Carencro (interment will follow at Evangeline Memorial Gardens).  KATC

CULTURE NEWS

  • Families can enjoy several holiday events this weekend in Lafayette, including a Christmas concert Friday at 2234 Kaliste Saloom Rd and a '60s holiday show at Cité des Arts; craft demonstrations at Vermilionville and sensory-friendly museum sessions continue through Sunday.  The Daily Advertiser
  • Rockin’ Around the Christmas Tree will return downtown Friday, Dec. 12 from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. at Parc Sans Souci, featuring live Zydeco music, festive decorations, holiday drinks, and family-friendly activities to kick off the Merry & Bright Christmas series.  KATC

EDUCATION NEWS

  • At a town hall today in Wharton Hall, UL Lafayette leaders outlined plans to shrink the deficit from about $50 million to near $10 million with cost-cutting measures while focusing on boosting student enrollment. They aim for a stable start next semester through revenue from land leases and alumni donations.  KATC

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • LDH announced Tuesday that it will renew its contract with Aetna to maintain Medicaid coverage for 157,000 residents, while the UnitedHealthcare contract covering 330,700 enrollees is set to be cancelled later this month + members will be reassigned to another provider.  The Current

SPORTS NEWS

  • Carencro's Kade Sonnier won his sixth NFR round Tuesday at Las Vegas after 16 bucking performances, riding Land of Fancy (88 points) and boosting his ranking to fourth. He now aims to win the world title with four rounds left.  KATC
