- ➤ A Lafayette teen raised over $100,000 by hosting his annual hot cocoa fundraiser last Friday on Beverly Drive (the event featured live music and warm cocoa and benefited the Second Harvest Food Bank). News 15
- ➤ Broussard Police hosted the annual Shop with a Cop event at Broussard Walmart as nine children enjoyed a holiday shopping spree funded by $2,500 raised during No Shave November (Mayor Ray Bourque said the event supports local families during Christmas). News 15
CULTURE NEWS
- ➤ Local figure skaters performed festive routines at Planet Ice on Saturday during the Winter Wonderland fundraiser to support the club and introduce the community to the sport. The club also has a Learn-to-Skate class scheduled for Jan. 5 at 6 p.m. for interested beginners. KATC
GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ Lafayette Consolidated Government and the Lafayette Parish Office of Homeland Security will open a warming shelter today at Dupuis Recreation Center — rides from St. Joseph Diner start at 3:30 p.m. to help residents beat the freeze. Those needing transportation should call 211. KATC
SPORTS NEWS
- ➤ LSU women’s basketball played against Louisiana Tech in the Compete 4 Cause Showcase at the Smoothie King Center yesterday at 5 p.m. CT; coach Kim Mulkey (a former Louisiana Tech player) said the matchup stirred bittersweet memories as LSU aimed to maintain its unbeaten record.
