  • On Saturday morning, Broussard Police hosted their annual Shop with a Cop event at Walmart, taking nine children on a Christmas shopping spree funded by a $2,500 No Shave November fundraiser (a boost for local families in need).  KATC

CULTURE NEWS

  • Clifton Chenier celebrations continue with a Grammy-nominated tribute album by Valcour Records, a mural unveiled outside The Funky Flea in Sunset on Dec. 12, and upcoming events including a panel discussion (Jan. 24) and a six-vinyl box set release (Feb. 6) raising funds for a ULL scholarship.  The Advocate

EDUCATION NEWS

  • The Lafayette Parish School Board honored outgoing President Britt Latiolais and praised Superintendent Francis Touchet — who earned a 3.8 evaluation score — for boosting academics, safety and facilities. The board will meet on Jan. 8 to discuss potential contract changes.  The Daily Advertiser

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Lafayette Consolidated Government extended warming shelter operations at Dupuis Recreation Center through Monday night to help those facing freezing temperatures. Guests must check out after lunch at 11:00 a.m. and may re-enter at 5:00 p.m.—transit fees are waived for rides to and from the shelter.  City of Lafayette

REAL ESTATE NEWS

  • Apartment listing prices in Lafayette dropped 6% from last year's median of $1,240 to $1,165 in November — Zumper data shows one-bedroom rates fell 10% while two-bedroom listings remained near October’s values. Listings are 14% below the state median and 38% below the national median.  The Daily Advertiser
