If you know a firefighter outside Lafayette, here's news for them. The has been designated a regional training facility. It was announced at a press conference Thursday, Nov. 5, where State Fire Marshal Chad Sonnier spoke, at the center on North Dugas Road off North University Avenue.

  • Partners: Lafayette Consolidated Government, Lafayette Fire Department, State Fire Marshal
  • Open to: firefighters from Lafayette Parish and neighboring parishes
  • Cost: free regional training
  • Coming later: live-fire exercises

Officials say the designation will bring training, testing and future live-fire exercises closer to home. Firefighters across Acadiana will get greater access to training, certifications and specialized instruction. Firefighters, local leaders and state officials gathered to celebrate the city's new role.
