  • Five Acadiana first responder organizations will compete for grants of up to $10,000 each from SLEMCO’s customer-funded Operation Round-Up program this Spring. Eligible agencies may apply by April 1 and SLEMCO customers will vote from May 1 to 22 with winners announced on May 26.  KATC

ACCIDENTS NEWS

  • A barn fire near Sadou in Lafayette Parish claimed 43 animals on Monday, March 2 at 10 p.m. — firefighters protected two nearby homes after combustibles placed too close to a heat source ignited the blaze.  News 15

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Willow Charter Academy’s Dean of Middle School, Andrea Robert, received the Dean of Excellence Award from National Heritage Academies last week for improving student outcomes and supporting staff. Principal Jessica Dominique said her focus on math and student data helped boost state test scores (a notable achievement for the school).  The Advocate

  • No. 2 LSU comes to Tigue Moore Field today at 6 p.m. for a midweek cross-state showdown, and Ragin’ Cajuns will face LSU in a non-conference game broadcast on ESPN+.  The Daily Advertiser
  • Lafayette Consolidated Government’s PARC Department has accepted registrations for the 2026 Youth Track & Field season for athletes aged 5 to 14. Meets at Northside High School are on Saturdays from April 18 to May 16 — on-site registration runs from 7:00 to 7:45 a.m. before the 8:00 a.m. start.  City of Lafayette
  • The UL men’s and women’s basketball teams won their play-in games against Georgia State in the Sun Belt Conference Tournament, with Jaxon Olvera and Mikaylah Manley scoring key points + fueling wins of 84-75 and 71-66.  News 15
